Top Tips to Reduce Cat Costs

Main Content No Comments »

Living through the current difficult financial times is difficult enough, but add cats which depend on you for sustenance, protection and veterinary care, anything that can be done, helps.

It’s a sad fact that many cats are given up or abandoned every week, as cat owners struggle to cope with the current economic climate.

This is exceedingly thorny for cat charities who have look after pets when money is scarce, living off on contributions to keep their animals in good health.

Here are a few points which could help make looking after a animal on a budget a little easier:

1. Consider every cat expenditure? Is it a key part of pet care? Do you need that specific pet food or product? It is always a good idea to raise cats up with variety, equally dry and wet, as well as different brands and flavours. Keep an eye on special deals. You can stock up. Consider vouchers, search on the net for some promotions. Buy based on price per pound / Kg, as sometimes, principally with special deals, the smaller pack can be cheaper.

2.      Is it possible that you can club together to buy feed and bedding in bulk, reducing the overall price and passing on savings to all.

3.      Veterinary bills are an unknown factor but must be considered. If cash is a little stretched, you may find a lot of Vets will consider spreading the costs, and reimburse monthly. If you can, afford it – have or keep cat insurance.

4.      Many people can make lifestyle changes! It’s not all about finding ways to keep your animal more economically, what about yourself!

5. Can you earn some cash? What about the idea of cat sitting, though good businesses such as London Cat Sitting will require you also to do dog walking. Perhaps find a dog walking  job Become a Dog Walker. Good companies such as London Dog Walking will require you do it regularly.

 6. Do not forget your other animals, you may have put animals in boarding, what about considering a cat sitter? The cat may prefer it and the cat sitters often do other things.

7.  Are you thinking of choosing a pet, certainly consider taking an animal from a charity, they have so many pets looking for a home during this crisis.

Enjoy your pet, they are worth the cost.

3 Cat Dandruff Treatment Strategies

Main Content No Comments »

As a frequent visitor to pet forums, a topic that comes up way too often is that of cat dandruff. It’s a problem that affects many cat owners, and if you have a cat, you’ll have to deal with it sooner or later.

But fear not, there may be a cat dandruff cure that you can use without burning a hole in your pocket, just by observing the symptoms and environment and taking action based on these symptoms.

This is what I got from the excellent website on cat dandruff treatment

Many cat dandruff problems have in common 3 things:

1. You own an aged or overweight pet with dandruff on her rump or tail

If you have a cat that is over-weight or has sudden weight gain and dandruff on her rump and tail, most likely she’s unable to reach these areas to clean herself. This is also an issue for old cats that lack the mobility to groom themselves.

Just carry on and brush your cat and you might want to consider grooming her every couple of months. If you decide to give your cat a bath, please avoid using human shampoos as that might make her skin drier and worsen the condition. Always use a cat shampoo and don’t forget to clean thoroughly as remaining shampoo stuck on her undercoat may only make the situation worse.

2. The weather is cold and dry

If your cat only has dandruff issues in winter, then it could be the result of the cold and dry weather. Worse of all, the majority of cats like to laze about in the warm comforts of the fireplace, which quickly dries her skin causing it to flake.

I suggest you take her away from the fireplace every once in a while and see if the situation persists. Getting a humidifier would be not a bad idea, both for your pet and also yourself (humans get dry skin too…)

3. None of the above apply, help!

If your kitty still has cat dandruff problems, just think, have you purchased any new furniture lately? A new carpet maybe? Check if there are any changes to her environment that she might be sensitive to and try to make the required adjustments.

If all 3 solutions still don’t work, don’t worry, check out this cat dandruff guide.

Choosing A Cat Feeder

Main Content No Comments »

One of the advantages of having an automatic cat feeder is that using one will relieve you from having to ask someone to come feed the cat when you were out of town. Another advantage is that you will be able to provide regularity for your pet. While some cats can be left overflowing cat feeders and only eat what he needs, there are other cats that are lacking in feline self-control. These cats will eat until the cat feeders run empty, they get sick, or both. At the same time, you will want your cat to eat what you have put in their bowl
right after you leave and have nothing left for the rest of the time you are gone. The answer is automatic cat feeders.

Automatic cat feeders tend to fall into two main categories. An automatic usually refers to a gravity type of system, while electronic is used to mean the type of feeder that will offer portion and frequency control. Whether you want to chose either an automatic feeder or an electronic feeder, all you need is periodically refill them and clean them. Either choice will make life simpler for you and providing consistency to your pet's life which helps to reduce stress.

Electronic cat feeders are a nice solution for dispensing moist or dry food, treats, or medications on a regular or timed basis. An automatic cat feeder is a perfect choice for dispensing only dry food but keep in mind, the food is always available, not regulated. If your pet tends to overeat, the electronic feeder can be what is the best for your needs.

There is a benefit of automatic feeders for the people involved in the cat's life. If the morning ritual is comprised of the cat jumping on the bed and meowing until you're ready to get up and give him a meal, who own the cat.
You will notice as the cat understands the cat feeder does this job by itself, and will also realize he doesn't need you to get up in order to receive a meal. It will take a little bit of a training time, but eventually your cat may even
let you  sleep in, on your day off, as long as the automatic cat feeder is set up to deliver the meal they are waiting for.

Get the Appropriate Litter Box for Your Cat

Main Content No Comments »

If you are thinking about bringing home a kitty cat, you really need to take the time to understand what it is that your cat is going to need to make it feel comfortable and secure.

Most times when you bring one of these pets home it isn’t yet a litter box trained so you need to make sure that you get one so that you are able to train the cat yourself.  If you are consistent in doing this, it will save you a lot of time and effort in cleaning up messes on your floor.

Choosing the right litter box for your cat is truly important if you want to make this happen.  This is all going to depend on how big your cat is and how spacious the cat box is in comparison. You need to make the box easily accessible for your cat both going in and out.

One can buy a litter box that can easily be cleaned from time to time. These manually cleaning chatterboxes can be found in most stores like Wal-Mart or Fred Meyer, or any such store that carries pet supplies.  The price depends on the kind of material that is used in making the box- whether it is plastic or another kind of non-absorbent material.

If cleaning the cat litter box isn’t up your alley, then you can fork out a couple hundred bucks and get something extra special that will clean itself.  Should the person decide not to buy either of the two and would prefer to use a disposable kind, one can use a soda box which should also be changed.

The litter box must have fillers making it easy for the person to clean.  This is needed to prevent odors from staying inside the box that can produce bacteria causing the cat to get sick.

If your cat is the type of cat that likes to have some privacy, then it is important to choose a cat litter box that has a cover.  When it is time for your cat to use the box, this can help to feel more comfortable in doing so.

It is amazing how many different types of litter boxes are on the market from really small ones for kittens to great big fancy ones for adult cats.  With the many different types of cat litters to choose from, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find one that your pet is comfortable with.

If you are having a hard time picking out the right cat litter box, you can always ask a sales associate at a pet store or a friend who might have a cat as a pet.

How Your Environment Can Be the Cause of Your Cat Dander Allergy

Main Content No Comments »

I read about cat dander problems all the time and it’s really a big deal if you love cats. If you’re one of the unlucky pet owners who have a reaction to cat dander, then great news, you may not have to give away your kitty.

Cat dander are very tiny pieces of cat skin shed by your pet and passed around all over your home. If you have an allergy, here are some ways to minimise your problem:

1) Don’t let your cat into the bedroom or onto your bed. I know this is difficult especially for those who share the bed with the cat, but the close proximity of your body to the bedsheet and pillow means that you’ll be inhaling cat dander whenever you lie on the bed. Try to train your feline friend to know that your bedroom is a no go zone and you should see immediate improvement.

Also clean your blankets, pillow cases and bedsheets with hot water as often as you can.

2) Does your house have carpets? You might want to remove them as cat dander cling on to them and bacteria breeds easily there. If that isn’t possible, give them a good vacuum whenever possible.

3) Do you own fabric sofas too? The cloth of the sofa is really conducive for cat dander. Change them with leather sofa sets or clean the fabric as often as possible.

4) Next you need to check your curtains. If you’re using the heavy fabric ones, cat dander might stick to them easily. You might want to consider curtains of another material or alternatives like blinds.

5) As cat dander can be airborne due to their small size, you have to consider cleaning the air too. It would be a good idea to purchase a good air purifier.

These five simple strategies should help you get started but they are not the only solutions. More information on cat dander can be found at CatDandruffAway.com
