Is it useless to by a cat tower for a declawed cat?

Can they still climb it?
***buy

sorry.

The cat won’t be able to "climb" up it, but if there are ledges for him or her to jump onto, it should work just fine.

All they will do is jump on it, they won’t climb it. I don’t think it’s a good buy.

I was gonna get one for my big fat fluffy declawed cat but I dont think shes athletic enough to jump anymore (think Garfield).

Yeah, they’ll have problems if it is the type that has to be climbed. There are others that they can just jump from platform platform and work their way up if they want.

They can still climb, but they just won’t have as good a grip with thier front feet. And of course they can still jump, so they will be able to get up there and enjoy the cat tower, declawed or not. Sometimes after kitty is declawed, it will take a while for he/she to get used to not having that abilty to cling to things while climbing, but once they get the hang of it they will be just fine.

They love to hide and play even if they can’t claw at it.

One of our cats is declawed, and he still scratches the scratching post. Behaviors like scratching, hiding, and climbing towers are ingrained.

Go ahead and get your cat a tower. Just make sure that the holes are low enough for it to get inside.

I have watched declawed cats go through the motions of using the cat tower. So maybe they derive some satisfaction from it.

It isn’t useless. My roommate has very sensitive skin so I had my cat completely declawed (front, back) and yet I bought a tower and she seats on it all day enjoying the view!

I think it would be useless because if a cat don’t have claws they don’t have a grip.

It is absolutely not useless. Your cat will enjoy the tower immensely as mine does. Even if they don’t have claws, they can still "pretend" and exercise their instincts. Use a little catnip on the tower to encourage its use. You didn’t mention how tall it was, but perhaps he/she will be able to jump on it and lay on top. I love cats and it’s wonderful to hear about people who take an honest interest in their pets. Good luck!

Cats love those towers specially if you put it in front of a window. Also if your vet was a good one when declawing your kittie he/she still has the nerves there and the tower will help with the relife of the itching where the claws once were.

Cat towers aren’t meant to be scratching posts, and I’ve known very few cats that preffer clawing their way up something to jumping. I’m assuming you mean cat tower, as in the tall carpeted things with leges and hidey-holes. One of those short cone-ish things wrapped in twine would indeed be useless, though.

I don’t think so, you see, for my cats, they always clawed the furniture, so we trained them to use their post by giving them a treat. They love it and use the post just cause they know foods coming. We than had them declawed because they were scratching up the hardwood floor, they still, tried to use the post for a treat. We just recently replaced the post for one of those kitty hideouts. Now they sit in front of the hideout and look at us like, wheres my treat??? It all depends on your putty tat.
