Does anyone else’s cat love to lay in cardboard boxes?
Posted by: admin : Category: cat condos
I have a cat. If we leave an empty box laying around for more than two minutes, he will be laying in it. I have a cat condo that he never uses.
Does your cat do this?
Yes, and wicker baskets!! I don’t know HOW she gets herself in half of them. I think I read somewhere that being in tight quarters makes them feel secure and safe…

Yep. All of our kittens (nearly 1 year old) adore cardboard boxes. One especially prefers anything from Amazon over any other. Most of my previous cats loved boxes as well, well into old age.

I have five cats; my youngest two just LOVE boxes (and suitcases, don’t leave one open around them LOL). The other three prefer to use the condo or to lay behind the loveseat. All cats love to find a little "cave" to snuggle into; it is this instinct that is the driving force behind your cat’s behavior. Why not take a box and put a small towel or blanket into it for him, maybe decorate the outside somehow, and let him have it for his hideaway? I actually took one of those corner litterboxes and converted it to a covered cat bed, because not one of my cats would use it as a litterbox; but they ALL love to sleep in it now that it is not filled with litter. LOL

Yes, I have a calico that checks out every new box I bring into the house.

Yep mine always does this, old cardboard boxes can still be lying around the house for months because the cat gets so attatched to them. They are very warm.

of course. this is one of the basic rules of cats
"All empty boxes and other small containers must be filled with a cat within two minutes."

i think all cats love to cram themselves into boxes, no matter how small the box, or how big the cat. my grandmother’s 14 lb cat loves to sit in this basket that’s on the floor. it’s made for holding flowers, but she pushes all the magazines out, and sits in it. all the cats I’ve ever had loved boxes. they’d also stick their heads into shoes (NO clue why), and sit there.
it’s like a kid with a empty box. screw whatever came IN the box, it’s the empty box that gets played with.

Yes, my cats love boxes. Whenever there’s a UPS box, the cats sniff around it and try to get in. They claim it as theirs, so I have no choice but to set it up for them.

Hahaha! YES! All my cats over the years either liked cardboard boxes or paper bags (when you used to be able to get them grocery shopping). They also seem to prefer lying on newspapers! Go figure! I also bought my new cats (10months and 3 years) a cat condo. The little one seemed to like to stash things in it when he was a baby but now.. doesn’t even notice it. I have found that expensive usually means ‘not useful/fun to cats’. Old film canisters, used toilet paper rolls (the cardboard), boxes, string, balls of old painting tape.. etc seem to give them more pleasure than any of the fancy toys and supplies I bought for them. Oh, well, I guess I learned my lessons!
Cheers!

You actually get 2 minutes before the cat’s in the box? Wow, I’m impressed! lol Our 4 are trying to get in before the box is even emptied. lol
There’s something about the smell of cardboard that some cats love, and also cats and boxes go together like dogs and bones.

my cat loves boxes. If I have an empty box, he will get in it and play, and he gets so mad when I take it away so I can put it in the trash. His ears go back and he growls at me. I dont know why he loves them so much, but he does. Its kinda funny.
