Help!! How do I stop my cat from scratching large holes in my carpet in the same spots?
Posted by: admin : Category: cat scratching posts
I have an orange tabby, who is personality plus! He can have quite the attitude at times, but what cat doesn’t! My cat keeps scratching in two different spots and has shredded the carpet to the backing and large holes. He only performs these acts while we are all in bed!
Yes, I have tried scratch posts, scratch pads with cat nip in the bottom, you name it I have tried the most obvious!
Please help, open to any idea that has worked for you; and of course will not harm the cat in any way!
Thanks!!
invest in a spray bottle fill it with water and spray her everytime she does it shell stop she will notice no other time is she getting sprayed

Have you cut your cats nails down yet? Or maybe try getting him declawed?

Declawing will help..although a lot of people don’t like this idea. Try spraying the area with a citrus cented spray. Cats don’t like a citrus smell. You could also put double backed tape in these areas and see if this deters him they also don’t like sticky stuff…but he may just start in another place.. But it sounds like your best option is the declawing…Good Luck

Since you’ve tried a lot of stuff already that doesn’t work, I suggest you get the cat front declawed. It’s always inside – right? And it will still have it’s back claws.

I don’t know if this will help but, my dog used to chew on this wooden thing so my mom put hot pepper on it. Turns out he liked hot pepper so she put lemon on it. It worked, he hates lemon. Put something on your floor that your cat hates maybe it will stay away. If not cover the spot with an area rug. You could also try keeping you cat in a crate.

If you keep your cat indoors, getting him declawed is a good option. My cat is declawed and he has faired well over the years while leaving everything intact.
If you are opposed to this, another suggestion would be to put him in a pet carrier while you are asleep.
There are various sprays and cat repellants on the market, but I haven’t ever found one that works.
Good luck.

Kiya12bc is absolutley right i agree 100% i had this problem and it worked wonders, or you could put pepper sprinkles down – cat steps in pepper, licks it off, hot in mouth, lesson learnt. I dont approve of this method as citrus is fine for me and the pepper could get in the cats eyes. You probably wont have to use this method anyway as citrus is good.

There are sprays you can get that discourage a cat from scratching in a certain place. You could also get your cat declawed, which I don’t recommend. It’s been proven to be psychologically damaging to cats. There are plastic things you can clip onto a cats claws so that it won’t cause as much damage. If you have the money or inclination, you can always take your carpet out and put in hardwood or stained concrete floors. Otherwise, I don’t know what else to tell you.
