Thin plywood, nails and/or screws and/or staples), hammer, saw, carpet remnants(cheaper) from carpet store…oh, the ability to use these aforementioned items. I’ve seen people make a "scratch pole" from a 1 foot square piece of plywood, a short piece of 4×4 wood and a piece of carpet. The cats liked it…they used it till the carpet had to be replaced…and then used it some more.

We used to have a sort of abstract cat condo that took up a good portion of a wall. All you need are shelves wide and long enough to accommodate two cats laying down plus carpet or rug remnants .

Stagger them from floor to ceiling. You might want to design some so they have to jump a few feet from one shelf to the other – in case they want to play.
