I just bought a cat condo how can I get the old cats scent off it?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat condos

I just bought a slightly used cat condo for my kitten. I of course made sure to ask the previous ownwer if her cat was sick in anyway and she said no. SO now I have this huge cat condo and my kitten smells the old cat and is afraid of it. What can I do to clean it and make my kitty love it?
Or is there anything I can do to make my kitty less afraid of it?

Hi Krissy…consider a couple ideas:
(1) Nature’s Miracle Just for Cats is an enzyme neutralizer to remove all odours rather than cover them up it neutralizes them.
(2) catnip to rescent the cat condo and entice your little kitten. Most young kittens don’t respond to catnip until they are older than 6 months.

Generally time is the best way to help a cat get acclimated to a new piece of cat furniture or anything new as some cats are not comfortable with changes. By playing with your kitten’s favourite toys nearby the kitty condo and then closer towards it will also help speed up the comfort level. This is the technique we use to help our exotic cats become comfortable with changes or introducing new objects in their environment.

Sorry, I don’t think you can. Cats are great at leaving scent and picking up old scents.

Leave it alone for a few days.

The smell will go away on it’s own and by not making a fuss, the cat will get used to it in time.

Spraying chemicals on it will make the problem worse, not better. You can try baking soda, rub it on and vacuum it off.

If you press the issue and freak out, the cat will too.
    Relax.

Have to agree with Seattle–the enzyme neutralizer spray is great stuff to keep around! My cats have a "cat tower" and they absolutely love it. It did take some interaction with them to stir up interest, but now 4 out of 5 think it’s great.
