Cat toys, scratching posts/house?

projects

I love doing projects and would rather make something than go out and buy something just so it’s unique. I am "owned" by two kittens and I was wondering if anyone had any creative ideas on how I could make their own unique toys, scratching posts, little cat condos, or the tubes they play in? Please list supplies as well and a website would be helpful, too. icon smile Cat toys, scratching posts/house? Thank you so much in advance!

There are a lot of neet ideas on this site.

  1. I took a small cabinet and punched out the top door panel. I built a small platform for the inside, so the cats can jump in through the punched-out section and rest on the platform,. Then I stapled carpeting over all the surfaces. My kitties have had it for 16 years and they still climb in for a nap. Recently I saw a stereo speaker box with the works removed, and that would also make an excellent house, with carpeting or blanket material stapled to it.

I also stapled carpeting to a plank and braced it so they can walk from the floor to the top of the bookcase. The bookcase is built in so they can’t topple it even if they wrestle up there. I only have 2 cats but they play rough!

  2. To make a scratching post, find an old log and nail it to a flat piece of wood that would be used as the base to keep it from tipping over [saved lots of $$ making it]. My cat loves it as it has the rough bark on it and also with the rough bark you can put strips of yarn on it or pieces of plastic. He also loves the tops off coke bottles, and the yarn I use for knitting. Get paper bags and open them up and leave it on the floor. They love to "investigate". Cardboard from inside of toilet tissue or paper towels.
