How to stop my cat from meowing so much?

My cat meows all the time and it’s so loud…He’s not hungry or thirsty and he has plenty of toys and tunnels and cat towers and scratch posts and little mice and cat grass (that he likes to drag all over the living room floor)…he just meows for no reason. I try holding him and rubbing him and he either wants down or runs away to one of the tunnels…I play with him and let him chase his little toys, but as soon as I do anything else, MEOW, MEOW (well in his case more like MOO, MOO…). And it’s the worse at like 4 in the morning when he jumps on me and MEOW’s until I get up or when I have anything to drink or eat in my hands he runs and jumps on me thinking that he has to have it and meows until I let him see what it is or taste it…I’ve tried the Feliway plugs but they don’t seem to calm his meow…Is there anything I can do to get some peace and quiet?

Well for starters it doesn’t sound like you have very much control over him! It seems like he’s more the leader than you are being! In order to get control over him you have to start thinking like a cat! Long hard petting him will let him know that you are the dominant one and grabbing him by the scruff of the neck will also let him know that you are the leader. Don’t be afraid to do this and thump him on the forehead and tell him NO very sternly when he is doing this behavior! A few times of doing this should get him to stop meowing sooo often!

I am a veterinary tech and we see this quite often. Also if he is not neutered yet you should definately get him neutered that will help

  1. Obviously something is wrong. He is trying to tell you something, so follow him around awhile and see where he takes you.
Did she have kittens and they are under the house?
Lots of reason to cause the meowing, so follow the meowing trail.
See what only he can show you.

  2. Is he fixed. If not that may help. Some cats are just very verbal. I just talk to them when they talk to me. As long as they hear the sound of my voice, they feel better. Sometimes, they just talk to hear their own voices. I would get him some catnip and some toys that he likes to play with. Mine have crackle balls and small mice to bat around the house. Of course, I have 11 cats and they amuse each other and do not rely solely on me to amuse them. That could be an answer. Getting him a playmate may help.

  3. is he spayed? that might help some if he’s not. Also do you leave him food out or do you feed him after you get up? he could know that when you get up its food time so he wants you up that instant. If none of these answers help it sounds like we are in the same lurch.

  5. umm… in this case he probably wants attention… maybe when hes meowing you should see what hes looking at and either give it to him or let him go there. if that doesnt work i would think about getting another cat b/c he sounds like he needs some one to play with constantly. or maybe hes just an attention hog.

BUT! IF YOU GET ANOTHER CAT you have to make sure hes not agressive to any cats. make sure the 2 cats get along before you get the other one.
    i hope i helped! <3

  6. Sounds like he needs more attention, I know you give him plenty but cats are needy sometimes. My little Kit Kat is the same way, but I have children and she just gets tired of them and wants me for protection..lol So I made her her own little place in the house just for her and right beside me. And she seems to chill out in her protected place as long as I’m in plan sight….

  7. My Gracie gets very "insistent" on occasion. One is "lunch time". She lets me know when she wants her lunch. It amounts to a table spoon of Fancy Feast. Sometimes she won’t even eat it all, it’s just part of her routine and it’s Mama/Gracie time. ALSO, if we have real flowers in the house, they drive her crazy. I have to put them on a special shelf, that she can not get to. She will sit across from them and just stare. If I walk by, she will meow really loud!. I will take the flowers to her and let her sniff, once in a while. When she starts to chew on the leaves, I put them back up. So I guess what I’m trying to say is, when she Meows real loud, she wants something.

  8. You’re going to love this one. Get a kitten. Your cat’s trying to let you know it’s bored and wants to play far more than you do.

  9. If there is, let me know.
I have an older cat that just started the loud meowing, when he was a kitten and up until about a month ago, I didn’t even think he could meow. Never a peep out of him, until now. The only time he will stop, is if I sit or lay down with him so he can sit on top of me. I can’t do this all day long though.
I hope someone has the answer for you and you don’t have to give up your cat.
    Good luck
