Where is there a place in the Quinte area that sells cat friendly carpeting?

Im building a cat condo and need some cat friendly carpeting. Carpeting without loops such as artificial fur fabric or solid colour carpet. But I don’t know where do go. Some ideas would be nice, thanks in advance.

You might try Wilson’s…they have a really good selection, I recently carpeted a doll house with remnants. They had good prices on ends’ n pieces as well. There phone# is 613-966-4666. They are on 62, 1mi N of 401 in Belleville. Hope this helps :)

Looking into Cat Tree/Condos….Question?

The ones made in stores are wood/carpet. The ones online are made of Faux Fur or Fauz Fleece. Anyone know about these or bought one of these trees or towers before? My cat loves to climb and i want to get him something. I have a small 2 window condo and want to get him something much bigger.
Check out this site: http://www.cattreestore.com/
Its alot less expensive than the store and alot bigger maybe 61-70 size. what does everyone else have? and i know boxes and everything is just as good but he loves to climb all the time.

I have three cat trees for my cats, and you really get what you pay for. For some, it is the size of the platforms, or the sturdiness of the construction. How well the carpet is put on, and how it is put on? Staples or glue? If my cat tree can hold three cats, all of them can be massively overweight, and it will not tip over. (Mine are not overweight, by the way!)

Looking at your link, I see the tall cat trees have a maximum weight of 40 lbs. You may not consider that to be a issue, as your cat may only weigh 10 pounds. But a rapid race to the top will put strain on the cat tree. My cat trees can support much more weight than that. You also do not want oiled sisal rope for the climbing posts. Some use oiled sisal rope, as it is cheaper and easier to work with. That is something I would ask as the type of sisal rope is not specified.

The first negative of what I see with the ones on the link are the flat platforms. Cats really love the curved platforms.

I have provided a link(first link) to where I have two of my trees from. One is over 15 years old, and has seen a lot of use, and still has many more years to go, despite the best efforts of my cats to try and destroy it. The second link is of the other cat tree I have. The quality is not quite as high, and the price is lower, and the platforms are a bit smaller. All three of my cat trees get a tremendous amount of use. I do not have any financial stake in either company.

Is 2.5 hours long enough to build a cat condo/tree during a team building event?

I have a team of 20 professionals who usually sit at a desk all day and work very long hours. I plan to have them do a team building event where they will be broken into 3 teams and will have 2.5 hours to build a kitty condo. All materials and tools will be provided but they must come up with the design on their own. The goal is to provide an experience where they will learn about each other, gain some awareness of communication differences and work together under stress. We have some team members who have analysis paralysis and others that make fast decisions without much research. I want to challenge them to create a plan and execute it as a team, but I am worried that 2.5 hours is not enough time. Again, all necessary tools will be provided to each team. What do you think?

I think you have a GREAT learning opportunity going on here. Now, as long as you give them the first .5 hr. to draw up their plans (and this is really rushing it, but it CAN be done), and the next 2 hours for the building/assembly process, then–YES! If they work well together as a team they CAN do this in 2.5 hours. This is something that Donald Trump should have thought of for one of the team efforts on The Apprentice. GREAT IDEA! Best of luck to all one this one!!

Have you ever built your own cat tree or cat condo what materials would I need?

I want a cat tree but I want to try and make it myself. I was looking for suggestions on materials…

Thanks

We have homemade cat trees at our house. The bases are plywood layers. The main posts are 4×4, the shelves are rigid cardboard pipes (because we didn’t have a way to cut PVC pipe which is what you really want) cut in half for the circular levels and dinner trays from Wal-Mart for the flat surfaces. The carpeting is various types but not looped so no claw is ever caught in the carpeting. The structure is held together with a combination of screws and nails. Then we attached the carpeting by a combination of nail gun and hot glue.

It’s a headache, but you can get a much better quality cat tree for a fraction of the price by building it yourself. So far, our cat tress have lasted 4 years and counting. They cost us just under $100 each to make 7ft tall trees (carpeting was the biggest expense).

Suggested Materials:
large plywood square for base
wood post 3×3 or 4×4 for center mast(s)
smaller plywood (or other material) for landings
PVC cut in middle for scoop feature and/or intact if you want a tube feature
sisal rope
non-looped carpet
