Bathing Your Cat

At some point in your cat’s life he or she may need to be bathed. If you are fortunate enough to have started when they were a kitten, the process will be much easier. However, it can be done with an older cat, if you follow some basic guide lines.

First, decide whether your cat really needs a bath. Cats are typically very clean animals. But they may have come into contact with something greasy. Your fur companion usually will not be able to completely remove the stain. Other ways to avoid a bath and clean your cat, could simply involve brushing the cat, combing or even rubbing them down with a damp cloth.

Trim all nails before even attempting to wash a cat – this will reduce scratching, minor or major. Wear appropriate clothing like a long sleeve shirt and clothing that isn’t new. Even a trimmed nail can leave scratches and draw blood. If you can afford this luxury, get at least one other person involved in washing your cat, especially if your cat is rather strong and can kick and wriggle its way out of your hands. One person should hold all four legs and hold the cat’s jaw so it can’t open its mouth to bite you, but be sure you don’t hold it so tight it can’t breathe. Hold your cat firmly so it cannot wriggle out from your grip.

Depending on the size of your cat, pick a location, (sink or tub), and fill with no more than 4-5 inches deep of warm water, (depending on size of the animal), before bringing your cat into the bathroom, since some cats can be unnerved by running water. Fill a bucket or two with extra water for rinsing the cat, but this is optional. However, you will not run the risk of frightening your cat by running the faucet. A rubber mat is a good way to make sure the cat has comfortable footing. A pet safe shampoo, 2-3 wash cloths and bath towel will also be needed. Before introducing your cat to the bathing location, comb the fur thoroughly, removing and knots or tangles. Do this before wetting the fur, or the task will be next to impossible once wet. Soak the cat from the neck down, using a wash cloth. Use a little bit of shampoo and with water; wash your cat’s neck, body, legs, belly and tail. Be sure not to get shampoo in their eyes, nose, mouth, or ears. (Cotton balls in the ears can help prevent water from entering.) Rinse thoroughly with the water in the tub, then drain the tub and rinse two more times with water from the bucket or warm water from the tap. It is essential that you remove all the soap from the coat. Blot your cat while gently pressing as much water as you can from the fur before you wrap your cat in the towel. When the first towel gets too wet, switch to another dry towel. Don’t stop until the cat is just damp. Warm towels from the dryer are great! Many cats find this comforting. Short-haired cats can finish drying themselves in the bathroom as long as they’re away from drafts. They will appreciate a heat source (space heater or warm air vent) and a dry towel to sit on. Long-haired cats will need to be combed and use more towels. Long hairs mat more easily when wet, so you may wish to comb the coat until it is completely dry.

Now that you are finished, (probably took longer to read this than to actually perform the task), never forget to reward your cat! Give him/her their favorite canned food, catnip or treats on their favorite piece of cat furniture and he/she will come to realize that there is a good side to being bathed.

Kitty Condo: The Ultimate Gift Cats Can Enjoy

Kitty condo or cat condo is a covered house or play space for cats. This structure serves various purposes; it can be your feline’s space for playing, relaxing, sleeping and hiding. An owner can place a kitty condo indoors or outdoors. A condo meant for outdoors will provide your favorite feline a comfortable place to stay when it is snowing, raining or when the sun is scorching.

There is a wide selection of cat condos guaranteed to make your pet happy and comfortable. These houses vary in designs, features, sizes and colors. Whether your penchant is for simple houses or for structures with a lot of features, you are sure to find the perfect one for your babies. Some houses have sisal poles, which your cats can enjoy scratching, while keeping their claws trimmed and healthy. There are also condos with box perch, which offers your kitty a great place to relax and the finest spot to view her surroundings. There are also some condos that include a cat toy designed to give any feline occupied in sheer delight.

There are some premium cat houses available that are sure to spoil any feline, and an example is a kitty condo composed of multiple levels. Some of these condos are six feet tall and have all the features felines may need for playing, exercising and lounging. These types of condos also give an ample amount of space to accommodate cat activities such as climbing and perching. With all the activities your cats can do on these, they will be content and occupied, and they will also get their much needed physical activity.

If you are in the market for a kitty condo, it is critical that you assess the quality of the product you are purchasing, to ensure that you are getting the best value for your money. A condo made from real wood is a great choice as opposed to one made from particle board or compressed wood chips. One other component to examine in order to determine the good quality of the condo is the carpet. Look for a kitty condo with thick, lush carpet, because it is a more comfortable and luxurious home for your kitty, and it is also more hard-wearing too.

When buying a kitty condo, other than considering quality, you should also consider your budget, the size of your cat and if you have the place to put it. Make sure to check the product specifications, because depending on the size, a condo can have a room for one small cat, or it can accommodate multiple big cats. If you have a small space in your house, but you have a big cat, there are compact cat condos that can house big cats, so make sure to look out for those. Low price does not essentially mean poor quality; you can get a good quality cat house at a reasonable price.

Is leaving a cat in a cat-only kennel for 2 months too long?

I have to travel for 2 months straight and can not take the cat. I have had him for 14 years and the job is asking me to perform on this project. He had never had to go to a Kennel before. The kennel keeps the cats in very large 3 level cat condos. i just wonder if 2 months is too long. (closest person that could take him is 6hours away)

Much too long for any cat but at 14 it would be extra stress-full,and you need to be care-full as stress in an older cat can cause kidney problems,so don’t risk his health get a someone to house sit him he would be much happier and so would you knowing he is safe at home, and give a piece of your clothing for him to sleep on for extra comfort,

try to ask the person 6 hours away to come to him, this would be easier for him save all that travelling,at 14 any stress is best avoided he needs calm and tranquillity, avoid the kennel its not a good idea he would feel he was abandoned, and being amongst strangers with all those strange smells and sounds,

and never being in a kennel before makes it worse he wouldn’t cope,so get a house sitter after all you want the best for your boy.
