Cat scratching Posts – totally Safe?

Just got one of those 3 leveled, rope & carpet wrapped around the posts, cube in the middle scratching posts for my two kittens for their birthdays and X-Mas. They LOVE it – But my one cat, (they’ll both be a year old) – is a complete nutcase. He thinks he’s a dog, always backflipping and jumping around – so he’s trying to flip from the highest box to the middle one. Never makes it, it’s not positioned correctly. He always falls, but he catches himself with his claws. When he does, it doesn’t sound too good. Scared me to death – so, now I’m freaking out he’ll flip and fly on there and his claws will get caught somehow and it’ll twist his paw, I don’t know. He never acts hurt, always jumps back up or starts running around somewhere else. I think I’m just paranoid he’ll break or twist something. Should I worry? Any tips? Anyone with similar fears/issues that have not been an issue? *lol*

Thanks!

Nothing in this world is totally safe. But you’ve got the feline equivalent of a 17 year old boy, there. So being ridiculously dare-devil is part of the deal. I can’t make you any promises, but I’m pretty sure if was really hurting him, he would quit doing it. You’ve got the scratching post thingy properly secured, so that it won’t fall over on him, right?

He’ll be ok. And then a year and a half from now, you will be simultaneously glad he’s grown up a bit, and also missing his mad-cap kittenish ways.

Cat scratching posts?

Well, I definitely do not want to declaw my new kitten, so I need to find a good quality scratching post for her to use instead!

Do any cat lovers have a high-quality, durable cat scratching object that they would recommend? It doesn’t necessarily have to be in the post shape, anything is good! Nothing too huge though!

If you can remember, add an estimate of how much it cost you!

Thanks!

Don’t get one that is rug-like because once they get to worn then they will get all over your house. The ones that are made out of straw materials and cloths are better because the pieces are easily vacuumed and they have replaceable stands. There are some suggestions below.

Also the honeycomb cardboard toys are great as a multipurpose. Your cat can use it as a scratching post or a toy.

How are the ‘Snooza’ cat scratching posts? Does anyone have on?

Does anyone have a ‘Snooza’ cat post? The ones with the replaceable covers?
I just want to know how they are and whether they are effective.
Thinking about getting one but dont want to get something the cat will most likely not use.
Success/ failure stories?
Thanks in advance!
(:

I haven’t tried this one, but I have found one that my 11 indoor cat LOVE. It’s cheaper than the Snooza, too. It looks like an " S " laying on it’s side, and it’s called……..PetLinks System DREAM CURL Curved Scratcher… If I remember correctly, it cost $19.99 @ Petsmart.

My cats get sick whenever I get them sisal posts, because they shred them so quickly that the sisal gets "stringy" and they eat them……..causing vomiting up "string balls"…..so, I tried this one. It lasted a lot longer, and when it was torn up, I got another one. My cats LOVE it. It’s sturdy enough that it doesn’t flip over when they’re scratching on it.

Next time you’re at Petsmart, look for it. Your cats may like it, too……..

Sorry I don’t have any info on the Snooza for you, but maybe you’d like this other one better.
Good luck.

Where can I find cheap cat scratching posts?

Where can I find cheap cat scratching posts/trees, something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAT-SCRATCHING-POST-ACTIVITY-CENTRE-PET-FURNITURE-NEW-/260639914124?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Cats&var=&hash=item826338ebdd

Thanks :-)
Also, it must be able to be delivered to the U.K.

well i have 2 cats and we didn’t want to buy a scratching post so we made one and all you need is some glue some rope a round post 2 boxes some sand and a pillow (we used a tree log) first we covered the post in glue and rapped the rope around it until the whole post is covered in rope next we let it dry so the rope is stuck on and then we got a box and put sand in it, sellotaped the top and then made a hole for the post to go in put the post in and then got some duck tape so the sand wouldn’t come out and as a finishing touch we put a box with a pillow inside on the log (you have to glue the box on first) so the cat can have a comfy sitting place too.

This is what i did so it works hope it helps :)
