How can I get my cat to scratch the rope onher scratching post/perch?

perchesprefers

We have one of those perches that is covered in carpeting except for the almost vertical support post, which is covered in sisel rope. Unfortunately, our cat only claws at the carpeted part, and never the rope. (Thankfully, she never claws the furniture.) I’ve tried putting catnip in the rope and playing with toys around the rope, but she just doesn’t seem interested. Won’t go for those cardboard scratching posts either.

There is an old saying:

You can lead a kitty to water…wait, Wrong saying.

You can buy a kitty anything and show it to them, and they’re going to do whatever the hell they want to anyway.

Serious answer. If you’ve tried catnip and toys, you’ve done all you can do.
Your kitty prefers the carpet and that is that.

How do I get my cat not to scratch the carpet? She has cat scratching post too.?

scratching

I squirt her with water but what about at night when Im sleep and she is up and about? TY icon surprised How do I get my cat not to scratch the carpet? She has cat scratching post too.? )
why "YUCK" Kryie?

If the scratching post has carpet on it, the cat has connected carpet with ok-to-scratch. Might be too late to break her now. Get another post that uses rope or tree bark or even cardboard and keep your cat out of the room with carpeting. Or spray the carpet with something she hates the smell of (my cats hate Febreeze).

Why does my cat scratches on me like a scratching post?

scratches

My cat scratches me like a scratching post. its not rough or hard or in a mean way or any thing. Why does he do that?
I thank all of you for answering my question, it helped me to figure out my cat MR. LEE. he is a male, by the way.
And for MR. LEE marking his territory, he is neutered, so there will be no spraying of any sorts.

my cat does the same thing and bites me too! not hard or very long but your cat is playing with you the only way she knows how and i believe mine is letting me know who is queen of the castle since only she & i live here.lol! but relax, your cat wants to play with you and its a way of bonding to her because she dont do this with just anybody, she has to know that you trust her.

How can I make an easy and effective cat scratching post?

limited

I have limited handiness but am baffled on why people pay $100+ for a kitty condo when it’s made out of $10 worth of supplies. Can anybody reccommend an alternative?

use a piece of untreated 4×4 for the post. make a nice stable base out of plywood or something flat, the heavier the better(within reason) There is no need for carpet or anything fancy, if they are going to scratch they prefer the wood to the carpet anyway. If you want a platform then make a platform big enough for the cat to lay on comfortably. To get the cats interest give it a shot of catnip oil or just rub some catnip on it.

How do I get my cat to use the scratching post?

scratchingparticularlytightly

I just bought my cat a scratching post, but I don’t think he knows what it is yet. He just kinda sniffs it, then scratches my computer chair again. How do I get him to learn to scratch the post?

(I don’t particularly mind that he scratches the chair, because that’s the only furniture he scratches and it’s already beat up. I just want him to know that the post is there for him to scratch, too!)

The fastest and easiest way to get a cat to use a new post is to play with a toy around the post. When he goes to grab the toy (use an interactive toy that has a long reach to protect your hands) his claws go into the scratching post.

Some posts have carpeting that has too thick a pile and cats cannot get their claws into it. Some scratching posts are put too far out of the way and cats ignore it. It helps to put it where the chair is or right next to the chair. You can move it later after he has started using it.

If your cat like catnip, rather than use the herb loose or soaking it in a spray, you can put some into the toe of a long sock and tie the top of the sock very tightly around the post with a sturdy knot. This helps prevent the herb from falling onto the floor and encouraging your cat to scratch the carpeting instead.

Why do my cats fight over the top of the cat post?

fightingconsidered

I have 2 sister cats age 2.5 years old, they were spayed very young. They always fight for who gets to be on the very top of our cat condo/cat post and then after fighting for left then 10 seconds start licking each other. I don’t get it. Should I just buy another cat post for them?
Sometimes they do hiss at each other while smacking each other in the face. But they only hiss maybe once out of every 10 times they fight over it.

Are they actually fighting, or are they just playing with each other? Friendly play can look violent, but it is perfectly normal for cats raised together to wrestle and bite each other in good fun. Normally, if cats are actually fighting in earnest they will howl and hiss at each other, and generally make lots of noise. They will also injure each other. The fact that they are breaking off midway to groom one another implies to me that your cats are not really fighting. This is typical play behavior.

Either way, high ground of any sort is considered prime territory by cats, so it is normal for them to fight or play-fight over who gets to occupy this space. Cats who are friends with each other will usually work out their territorial claims in a playful way. I’m sure your cats would enjoy having a second cat post, but I don’t think you need to be concerned about deterring this behavior.
